শেষমেশ ফ্রাইবুর্গ এর কারখানাটা আমার ঘাড়ে এসেই পড়ল। ঘাড়ে এসে পড়ল, নাকি একে ফেলা হল, সেই বিতর্ক এখন অবান্তর। আমাকে বেছে নিতে দিলে পুর্ব জার্মানীর চিপাচাপার এই কারখানাটা আমার পোর্টফোলিও তে নিতাম না, মাগ্না দিলেও না।
আমাকে ভুল বুঝবেন না। পুর্ব জার্মানী, বিশেষ করে স্যক্সনির বদনাম আমার কাছে পাবেন না। মহা সুন্দর এলাকা, সুন্দর মানুষজন। জার্মানীর আর কোথায় পনের ইউরোতে ভাল রাতের খাবার, আধা বোতল খাশা রিযলিং সমেৎ, পাচ্ছেন? ছুটি কাটানোর জন্য এর চাইতে ভাল কিছু পেতে হলে আল্প্স্ এর দক্ষিনে খুজতে হবে। কিন্তু এখানে কাজ হাসিল করা মহা হুজ্জত এর ব্যাপার। বেশ কয়েক যুগের আবদ্ধতা, কম্যুনিস্ট শসণ আর পুঁজিবিমুখ মানষিকতাকে ত আর কয়েক বছর এ ধুয়ে ফেলা যায় না। ড্রেসডেন এর ইলেক্ট্রনিক/সিলিকন শিল্প অবস্থার কিছুটা উন্নতি ঘটালেও আয়রোজগারের ব্যবস্থা কম, পোলাপান জাওয়ানীর হাওয়া লাগল কি ছুটল ধান্দায় – বেশীর ভাগ ই চলে গেল হাম্বুর্গ নইলে বার্লিনের তুর্কী, চেক আর পোলিশ দের গুস্টি উদ্ধার করতে, নয়ত একটু গায়ে গতরে হলে লেইস্টার স্কায়ার নইলে সোহোয় নাইটক্লাব এর বাঊন্সার হতে। ব্রাসেলস্ এর আমলাদের কাছে ইউরোপের অর্থনৈতিক মাথাব্যথার যে ফর্দটা থাকে, স্যক্সনি তার শুরুর দিকেই আছে বেশ কয়েকবছর ধরে।
এই কারখানায় দিনরাত চব্বিশ ঘন্টা অতিদাহ্য তরলপদার্থ উচ্চচাপ আর উচ্চতাপ এ সর্বত্রই সুড়ুৎ সুড়ুৎ করে চলাচল করছে, সেখানের ৫০ মিটারের মধ্যেই অবস্থিত কেন্দ্রীয় পরিচালনাকক্ষকে ঘিরে আছে মাত্র ১৫ সেন্টিমিটার এর এক চিলতে ইটের দেয়াল। সারা কারখানাএ মাত্র চারটা অগ্নীনির্বাপন যন্ত্র, কারো মাথাএ হেল্মেট নাই, হুট হাট করে যে যখন খুশি আসছে যাচ্ছে। চিপাএ গিয়ে সিগারেট ফুকে আসছে। এই দুই হাজার সাত এ এসে কেউ এই ধাঁচের নকশা পাশ করতে পারে, এই ভাবে একটা জ্বলজ্যন্ত (আক্ষরিক) রিফাইনারি চালাতে পারে তা এইখানে না দেখলে বিশ্বাস হত না। একটু অনুচিত ভালোলাগাও ভেসে গেল মনের কোণ দিয়ে। মনে পড়ে, আমাদের চট্টগ্রাম এর ইস্টার্ন রিফাইনারি সেই কবে পঞ্চাশ এর দশকের বানানো। তাতেই মোটামুটি একই কাতার একটা কারখানায় কেন্দ্রীএ পরিচালনাকক্ষকে প্রায় দেড়শো মিটার দূরে রাখার পরেও তাকে ঘিরে দেয়া হয়েছে ৪৫ সেন্টিমিটার এর আর সি সি দিয়ে। আর ওইখানে পারলে যাক ত কোনো বান্দা হেল্মেট আর যথারিতি পাশ ছড়া...সিকিউরিটির সৈয়দ মঞ্জুর বুঝায় দিবে তার হাতের ডান্ডায় কয়টা গিড়া।
হেড অফিস এর ইঞ্জিনিয়ার দের সাফ কথা, সাড়ে তিন মিলিয়ন এর কম এই কারখানার সাস্থ্য, সুরক্ষা আর পরিবেশ সংক্রান্ত ব্যবাস্থাদি পশ্চিম ইউরোপের এর কাতার এ টেনে তোলা যাবে না। একেবার গোড়া থেকে শুরু করতে হবে, ব্যবস্থাপনা থেকে শুরু করে ফ্লোর অপারেটর পর্যন্ত সবার উপযুক্ত ট্রেনিং দিতে হবে, আসবাব, কন্সট্রাকশন, ইন্সপেকশন – অনেক লম্বা লিস্ট্। সাড়ে তিন এর এক সেন্ট কমেও হবে না।
আমি এই কারখানার তহবিল নাড়াচাড়ার পর মাত্র আড়াই নিয়ে ক্যলেন্ডার এর দিকে তাকিয়ে। আগামি বাজেট সাইকেল শুরু হতে ওনেকদিন বাকি...

Sat 28/04
Saturday the Hanif crew visited the Zoo (Blijdorp). Aleena's been there before, but it was the first time for Aroosha. She hates being strapped in the buggy, and wants to wriggle herself free. Where were in the netted area for the birds, she was scared at first to look at the birds, but later was trying to catch them. Its funny that she wants to run, but the little thing cannot even stand by herself. poor baby...
For Aleena, it was a dissapointment. She wanted to see teh penguins : after watching Happy Feet .. but alas the penguin display was not open.
Naima wanted to check-up on some new clothes. Apparently there is a great sale going on in the Centrum. By the time we drove into downtown, all the parkings were full. But we were lucky ..no sooner we drove into Beurs, a car drove away and allowed us to park right outside De Doelen Cafe. What a treat.
Rush Rush Rush, we just realized that we'll need to be at Kruiskade to pick up some stuff.
Sun 29/04
A lazy morning. Woke up late. Highlight of the day is BBQ at Rozik's place. Rozik and her Armanian husband Robert has the most delicious collection of persian home cooking. Robert is truely the klusjeman of the house. He fixes everything thing makes everything himself. He made the BBQ grill himself using the laser steelcutters from his work.
The children were playing in the grass at Rozik's. The big girls dont want to play with Ruben, and we dont want Ruben to be around Aroosha. Ruben's expression of affection to Aroosha is expressed with violent blows to the face and head, he is a big baby.
Robert's view on life is very strait forward. He is pro-military for Turkey. Funny he feels like that given what the turkish military did to his homeland. But we agreed, anything is better than the mullahs....
The lamb was excellent.
Mon 30/04
Contrary to earlier plans, we are not going to the Centrum. The weather man said it will be 'tropisch heet' so no point roasting in the sun. Aleena has already attained her Nubian Princess looks. Aroosha ta abar beshi gorom shojjho korte paray na.
Said no to Anil and Taru. Besides, why become the haddi among the newly weds?
Woke up with a strange pain my my ankle. Did I step on one of many toys on the carpet when I sleep walked to the toilet last night? was it already there Sunday? it was becoming more and more noticable. By lunchtime, I had a swollen foot and lost the bility to even limp accross the room to get a glass of water. Dont like this at all....
Naima and Agnieszka agreed to clean up the back-garden all by themselves. A direct attack on the manhood of the only man in this house. But the man cannot even walk....
Just went to the hospital emergency to have my foot looked at. The doctor couldnt find anything wrong with it. She prescribed diclorophen, a mild painkiller. Got back home with a packet of tabs, and a coldpack. It isnt nice watching one's wife and her girlfriend at work from the kitchen window. Got a batch of quails out of the fridge to defrost, at least I can offer those two some good food tonight.

The pain is 'cholay gechhe'. Haalemaal Weg! Only a small remenence to show where it was. The crew drove down to Intratuin. Its been a while that we were planning to have a climbing rose for the side of the garden that dont get a lot of sun. The seasonals in Naima's composition of falling pitchers near the entrance died a long time ago.
It's funny they call this place a garden center. Theres more interior decoration stuff than plants and gardening stuff. Had my eye on a duo-Cheery plant : two types of Cherry in one plant, guaranteed to fruit next year. Naima did not agree to spend €100 on this.....have to stay happy with my apple trees for the time being.
The foot swelled again in the car, on the way back. Forgot to stop at Karwei to pick-up the blinds.

Woke up before the girls this morning. Absolutely not sign of pain in the foot. it is really gone. The new Habib CD is perfect for this situation. Fast forwarding to 'Poran Pakhi' I dug my fingers into a bowl of half grain flour. We'll have paratha this morning. Did amma send any shuji with the last package from Dhaka?
The girls came downstairs fully showered and their hair oiled and parted. Aroosha smells just divine after she has a bath and has been rubbed with all sorts of stuff. Naima puts the coffee on. I'd like a vienna melange alsublieft.
We couldnt eat any of the pumpkins from last year's crop. Giant leaves, grand yellow flowers and strong wide heaped pumpkins, but no taste! This year we are not going for any of those.
